Howdy peoples! Even though I was on yesterday's Wordless Wednesday post, the rest of The Kitty Krew agreed that I could post again today with an update on how I've been doing, since there were many questions from you, my adoring fans. So here I am again, in all my handsomeness.
For those newish to the bloggie, you can see a summary of the health issues I went through this summer and fall
right here. As a really really quick recap, one issue was that I had an eye removed due to a tumor that turned out to be cancerous, so then went through 3.5 weeks of radiation treatments.
Now for the update -- I feel great!
Since the last treatment back in early October, I haven't been sick or anything. I went back to Dr. Cancer Vet last week for a one month check-up, just a general exam not any tests (it's way too soon for a new CT scan to see if all the cancer junk is gone), and he said I look super.
However, there is one kind of funny thing...funny weird more than funny ha-ha. I never had any side effects while going through the treatments, and after I was done, Dr. Cancer Vet said that about the only thing that might still happen was possibly losing some furs around my no-eye and having new ones grow in white. Well, up until a few days ago, even that hadn't happened. But all of a sudden, just within this week, it's started -- and really fast! Look at this progression of photos, taken over the past few weeks:
October 21:
November 4:
November 7:
November 12:
November 17:
See how obvious it is in last night's photo, compared to the first few? Even in the photo from the 12th, it's just starting to show. (Of course, lighting and flash effects plus angle of the camera can contribute a little to that, but still...) The Mommy isn't quite sure if that light area is from the furs falling out and showing the lightness underneath due to 'space' between the remaining furs, or if it's actually the new white/light gray furs growing back in - it's very sparse/short so it's difficult to tell for sure.
But you know -- we both decided (even before it happened) that if that's the worst and only side effect I end up with after 18 radiation treatments, we can live with that. After all, I have plenty of white furs anyway so they'll fit in and give me character. (Wait, what Mommy? What do you mean, I'm a real character already??)
So anyways, I'm doing really really great, and best of all, I don't have to go back to Dr. Cancer Vet for 3 whole months now!
Thanks for being so concerned and caring, everyone!
Love,

Excellent news about Bugsy. Mojo's hair grew back in white after his radiation too, and he only had 4 doses! He experienced some nausea about a month out from treatment for a couple of weeks, so purring that Bugsy will miss this step!
OH Bugsy that is great!
We like that you're going to have a white "eye patch"! It makes you unique!
Keep up the terrific work!

Bugsy we are so glad to hear that you are doing so well! And we actually love the new white area - furs, skin, whatever. It kind of makes us think of a pirates eye patch, but in reverse, and we really like pirates!
It just adds to your rakish charm, Bugsy!
Bugsy, we're so happy you're doing so well! And we like the white furs on your face! You look good, dude!!
And, BTW, you (or somecat) sure has done a number on that scratcher you're laying on in the first picture!
Very good news, Bugsy! Thanks for the update. And I think the white furs make you look very distinguished. It's almost like a fur patch where your eye used to be.
Nothing can distract from your innate handsomeness and catrisma.
Bugster-we are SO THRILLED to hear of your progress! Heck, we could tell you're doing great!! Look splendid, as man cat should!

We are so happy you are doing so well. You had us worried for a while, you know. And that white streak looks like a natural pirate's patch. Arrr, very cool.
We are very glad you are doing well. The white stripe will make you look distinguished.

Bugsy we are glad you are feeling better! The white patch will make you look distinguished!
I have two white furs that do not match but they are a fashion statement, and they can be for you too Bugsy.
We're so pleased you're doing well, Bugsy! Your former eye looks like it's healed really perfectly and we think you're even more handsome than when you had an eye there!
Aw Bugsy, so happy you are feelin' good, and it just looks like you've got some paint on yer face!
We think your new eye patch is a badge of honor to show what a good kitty you've been through all of this.
