Tortie Tuesday

Hi there, peoples! I'm Gypsy, the other newest member of The Kitty Krew. I had another name at the shelter (Tamara), but The Mommy said that just wouldn't do here at my new home. As Ziggy explained yesterday, we have Rules to follow here, and Tamara didn't fit in with that (and besides, The Mommy had 'Gypsy' in mind for her next girl cat No Matter What... MOL). All the kitties who already live here had a name ending in 'y' or 'ie', and my name has to match too, right? So now I'm Gypsy. I like Gypsy, it's a mysterious name and I'm a mysterious cat.

And I've picked up a few nicknames already, though not quite as many as Ziggy: Gyps, Gypsy Girl, Girly Girl, Gypster, Gypsy Mae. I'll answer to (or is that ignore? MOL) almost any of those.

I'm a dilute tortie, just over a year old. I was born in late September last year. We're not sure why I ended up in a shelter; the no-kill shelter where The Mommy came and rescued me from was my second, the first one I was in didn't have any luck placing me and sent me to the other one in hopes more people would see me and someone would give me a furever home. It worked!

I'm friendly but standoffish at the same time; I was friendly to The Mommy at the shelter and will sometimes come up to her to be petted, but mostly I keep to myself. The first week here, I mostly stayed in the den (which is where most living takes place in this house -- where the TV and computer are, for instance), and ventured to the kitchen to eat, and that's about it. I, um, didn't even know where the litter boxes were even though The Mommy tried to show me. And then the second week, for no reason The Mommy could tell, I started staying mostly in the dining room, and of course to the kitchen to eat. But I did find the litter boxes!

But I don't really play with toys or anything, I just sit or lay around, and try to avoid interacting with the other kitties. Maybe once I really get used to being here, I'll get out and about more. The Mommy also thinks I may have been abused some, wherever I was. Often when she comes to pet me with her hand out, if she moves too sudden, I kind of flinch as if I think I'm going to get hit. I'll learn better, I'm sure.

But I've learned a few things in my 2 weeks here, too. I learned to lay on the desk all comfy:

And I learned how to be an Island Cat!

I've also learned good grooming habits.

I also wanted to show you all my tail...or lack thereof. MOL Apparently when I got to the second shelter, my tail had been injured so badly - they're not sure how or when exactly - that most of it had to be amputated. So I've only got a little stub of a tail left. I'm not worried though, I'll be just fine without it!

Well, I look forward to getting to know all you kitties and other critters and peoples better!

Mancat (in Training) Monday

Hi peoples! I'm Ziggy, the youngest new member of The Kitty Krew. The people at the shelter named me Thor, but The Mommy said that just wouldn't do here at my new home. We have Rules to follow here, y'see, and Thor didn't work at all. All the long-time members had a name ending in 'y' or 'ie', and it wouldn't do for me to not fit in, right? So now I'm Ziggy. It's okay, I didn't really know the name Thor all that much anyway. I like Ziggy, it's a fun name and I'm a fun cat.

And I've got some great nicknames, too. Zig; Zig Zig; Zig Zag ('cause I can be running across a room and then turn on a dime to avoid something - or just because I want to!); Zoom Zoom (for much the same reason! MOL); Z-boy (that's from Zoolatry!); Ziggy Boy; Zigster. Sometimes I'm not really sure what my name is exactly... MOL

I'm a brown/black/gray and white tabby mancat in training, 'cuz I'm still less than a year old. I was born in late April, so I'm not yet 7 months but more than 6 months. I guess my momma kitty had me and some siblings unexpectedly and her bean couldn't keep us kittens and so took us to the no-kill shelter, where The Mommy came and rescued me. I was the first one to greet her and say hello and lick her fingers when she came into one of the cat rooms at the shelter! (See how smart I am??)

The Mommy says that in many ways, I'm a typical kitten; I'll be playing really hard and running and going, and then WHAM! Down I'll plop for a nap. Well, hey, playing and running and going wears a guy out, y'know? But I'll have her know, I'm anything but a typical kitten. I mentioned how smart I was at the shelter, to get her attention quickly, but see what else I've already learned in my 2 weeks here? I've learned to play with the nip nanner...

I've learned good grooming habits...complete with cute pink tongue!

And I've learned about the importance of the comfy hairy blankies!

I dare say that most typical kittens aren't near that smart. Ha!

Anyways, I look forward to getting to know you kitties and other aminals and peoples better in the days to come!

Welcome to The Kitty Krew! This is a new blog as of 6/5/09. The Mommy and her kids have been following some other kitty blogs lately, and they've been pestering her for their own blog, so here it is. May take us awhile to get in the swing of things, but we'll do what we can. This will likely be a combination of The Mommy posting and The Kitty Krew posting -- depends on how much fighting over the computer is done (and if The Mommy posts from work, as she's doing now ;)).

We'll do a better intro later, but how about some quick pics of the stars of the show?

This is Bugsy, he's 5.5 years old:

And here we have Sassy, Bugsy's sister:

Then there's Callie, Bugsy's and Sassy's sister:

Next is Roxy, she's 3.5 years old, a half-sibling to the above three:

And finally, there's Pixie, he's 2.5 years old, and not related to the rest:

And there you have it -- The Kitty Krew!

We'll get the hang of this blog thing as quick as we can, and hopefully have something interesting for the readers to follow. Until later, ta for now!
